Local Builder Goes Green Building Green…More than marketing… Racine, Wisconsin June 12, 2008:
June of 2008 marks a milestone in Newport Builders rich history - “WE’VE GONE GREEN.”
We can’t take credit for green building - it has been around for decades. In fact we have always been environmentally friendly and safe for our home owners. Recently, a genuine green building movement gained traction in this country. Last year Green Built Homes™, Wisconsin’s statewide green building program, was recognized by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as the top statewide program in country. Green Built Homes™ is the non for profit organization that verifies the certification process of all the green builders in Wisconsin. While Newport Builders is not the only builder who has “gone green”, they are the first builder in the Racine Kenosha Builders Association (RKBA) to commit to 100% green building. Every home that Newport Builders, Inc. builds will be certified as green built.
Newport Builders currently has two projects under construction, several “Freedom Homes” starting in the next 45 days, and a handful of custom projects in design – all of them being built to Green Built Homes™ specifications. This means that every home built by Newport Builders will reduce the carbon impact equivalent to taking one car off the road and the average waste that goes into our landfills. In other words, every home built will help sustain the environment and our community.
Going Green is not new to Racine. In mid-April of 2007, the city and county of Racine, Wisconsin became the first community in the nation to embrace a cost-efficient and effective, community wide green cleaning campaign. “It was just a common sense thing to do,” said Bill McReynolds, Racine County Executive. “Every little bit that we can do to help provide a safe environment for our customers, our staff and our cleaning personnel is our goal, and we just felt it was the right thing to do.”
Newport Builders agrees with Mr. McReynolds. Building green is simply the right thing to do. The building industry has a heavy impact on our eco-system. Construction can create water pollution, excess energy consumption and landfill waste. Building healthier homes for our families and our community is the right thing to do. Green building will help make our community to remain a great place to call home; a place that our children will return after college, and a place newcomers will be drawn too.
Will a Newport GreenBuilt Healthy Home save the world? Probably not.
However, GreenBuilt Healthy Homes will be affordable in the midst of increasing energy costs. They will be safe from indoor air quality concerns that affect our children. They will help make Racine a better place to live.
Newport Builders is not going green for marketing. Instead, they are joining in with so many other businesses and individuals to help each other live healthier lives, protect this wonderful community, and do the right thing.
